Route 1A runs through the center of Hamilton, where local shops, restaurants, municipal services, Patton Park, and the Hamilton/Wenham commuter rail station are clustered within the same general area. The MBTA Newburyport/Rockport Line gives the town direct rail service to Boston, while Route 1A and Route 22 handle much of the local road traffic. Beyond the center, Hamilton becomes much more residential, with larger properties, working farms, and open land mixed among established neighborhoods. Appleton Farms and the adjoining Appleton Farms Grass Rides cover hundreds of acres in Hamilton and Ipswich, combining an active farm, farm store, fields, woodlands, and an extensive trail network. Patton Park provides athletic fields and community recreation closer to the town center. Hamilton’s rail station, working agricultural land, local business district, and recreation areas are all part of the town within only a few miles of one another.
