Hopedale’s layout still reflects its development around the former Draper Corporation, which built factories, housing, roads, civic buildings, and parks as the town grew into a major textile-machinery center. The factory itself is gone, but the surrounding residential streets, Town Hall, schools, and other buildings remain part of the town’s distinctive physical layout. Route 16 crosses the center, while Route 140 carries traffic through the eastern side of town and contains much of Hopedale’s current commercial activity. Hopedale Pond sits immediately beside the developed center, and the adjoining Parklands cover nearly 180 acres with trails and wooded recreation areas; Town Park provides athletic facilities and a bandstand nearby. Hopedale is small geographically, but its industrial history, planned neighborhoods, pond, parks, and present-day business corridors give it more variety than its size suggests.
