The area began getting more developed when the Brookline Branch Railroad was developed. It was developed primarily with the intention of being a fashionable residential area in the 1850s by David Sears and Amos Adams Lawrence. Also by this time, David Sears had planted over fourteen thousand beech trees in the Longwood Area.
