Apartments for Rent in Downtown Boston, MA

When we think of Boston, Massachusetts, we think of the place where the wheels of democracy started to turn. Downtown Boston is the hub of that wheel. Even though the City of Boston is a major business and educational center, the mystique of America’s origins still lingers. It is no wonder that so many covet Downtown Boston real estate. Whether you are lured by the history of a Boston brownstone, a luxury apartment on the Boston waterfront, or the excitement of the Boston theater district, once you get a taste of Downtown Boston you will want to stay.

History of Downtown Boston, MA

The first permanent settler in Boston was William Blaxton, a minister from England who arrived in 1625. Political disputes and the hardships of the wilderness proved to be too arduous for the colonists who arrived with him, so they returned to England that same year. Braxton, however, made a new life for himself and even grew a thriving apple orchard. Solitude in what would soon become the city of Boston agreed with him.

The Puritans arrived in Charlestown four years later but had trouble finding potable water. In 1630, Blaxton responded to their plight and invited the Puritans to settle in Boston. In 1634, Blaxton had enough of the “crowded” conditions, sold his 50-acre farm to the settlers, and moved to Rhode Island. The farm became the oldest park in America – the Boston Common. With a series of annexations, the city of Boston grew from this hub.
