Things to Do in Boston during the Winter

2 minute read
Boston winter activities

The holiday season in Boston is nothing short of magical. From the Christmas tree in Boston Common to the lights and miniatures of Newbury Street, there are so many ways to celebrate the winter holidays. But what about after the new year? Keep the magic going as long as the frosty weather lasts with these winter activities in Boston.

Winter Ice Skating in Boston Common

Boston Common ice skating at Frog Pond stays open all winter into March. The rink is open 7 days a week for $6 for adults. It is free for kids. You can also rent skates — $12 for adults and $6 for kids, as well as a locker to store your valuables. Frog Pond has thought of everything. All there is left for you to do is drop in and glide across the ice!

Check out a Museum

If you want to stay warm and enjoy some culture, why not stop by one of the many amazing museums in Boston? The Museum of Fine Arts cycles through many themed and seasonal exhibitions. For art with a more modern flair, there is always the Institute of Contemporary Art. Not an art buff? The Museum of Science features fascinating exhibits in a lively atmosphere. And if you need somewhere to take the little ones, the Boston Children’s Museum is a great option.

Of course, part of what makes Boston so special is all of its wonderful history. Save the walking tours for the spring. The USS Constitution Museum in Charlestown and the African Meeting House on Beacon Hill both bring history to life – Inside their heated buildings!

Tour the Sam Adams Brewery

Museums are great, but New Englanders also love their beer! You can tour the famous Samuel Adams brewery for a suggested donation of just $2. Try to catch the Morning Mash In tour on Saturdays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays at 9:40 am. It ends with a beer tasting, which might be just the thing to warm you up during the late winter.
