Several Boston Suburbs Listed as Among the Nations Most Expensive for Real Estate.
A new study by one of the nations largest real estate companies has found that 9 of the top 50 most expensive zip codes in the country are suburbs right here in the Boston area. The recent surge in Boston’s real estate market has sent home prices sky high in some of Boston’s surrounding neighborhoods, making Massachusetts second on the list of states with the most zip codes in the top 50, trailing only California.
The study ranked the most expensive average price for a four bedroom two bathroom house on the market. In order to qualify, the neighborhood must have at least 10 homes that fit the criteria currently on the market in that zip code.
The areas that made the top 50 include a few neighborhoods you’d expect to be on the list, like Wellesley and Cambridge. There were also a few surprises you might not expect like Canton and Woburn.
The most expensive zip code was Wellesley, which came in at number 13. There the average listed price of a four bedroom, two bathroom home is $1.2 million. Close behind was Cambridge at number 22, with an average price of just over $1 million. Lexington was number 28 at $988,000. The following communities rounded out the top 50:
34. Marblehead $961,594
37. Hingham $949,167
42. Cohasset $917,718
46. Belmont $896,684
48. Needham $894,533
